Tri-Valley senior pole vault standout Hayden Stevens is headed to the University of Rio Grande to continue his athletic and academic career after high school graduation.

In front of family, coaches, and friends on Monday afternoon, May 4 in the lobby of TVHS, Hayden signed his national letter of intent to attend the University of Rio Grande, and join the Red Storm indoor and outdoor track and field team as a pole vaulter.

The University of Rio Grande is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for varsity sports.

As a four-year letterman and standout member of the TVHS Track and Field team (the Scotties are the defending conference champions) Hayden is the Muskingum Valley League defending champion in the pole vault, has several top finishes at meets and invitationals this season so far, and has a PR this season of 13’ 1” with the annual conference meet looming, as well as the post season for Stevens.

TVHS Boys Track and Field Coach Brad Sims has high praise for Stevens, stating that “Beyond his own accomplishments, Hayden has worked with a private coach to refine his techniques and has shared that knowledge with younger vaulters on the team, helping them to improve and strengthening the future of our program,” says Sims.

“Hayden’s growth, dedication, and leadership have made a lasting impact on our TVHS Track and Field program,” Coach Sims continues, “and we are proud of all that Hayden has accomplished, and wish him the every best as he continues his academic and athletic career at the University of Rio Grande.”

Hayden will be studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Rio Grande.
